Genealogy

Genealogy

  

   Genealogy research for birth, death, and marriage certificate records may be conducted in our office between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The fee for each search (by mail or in person) is $5.00 and must be accompanied by appropriate form below.

  • Birth records begin in our office at the year 1878. Genealogical birth records may be obtained if the record is at least 75 years old.
  • Death certificates begin in our office at the year 1878. Genealogical death records must be on file at least 20 years before release.
  • Marriage records begin in our office at the year 1857. Genealogical copies may be obtained if the record is at least 50 years old.

    A genealogy search may be made by individuals in our office in accordance with Illinois State Statute, and at no time may the searcher handle the original documents. No searching or assistance with searches will be available on election days in Illinois. Please see the Election Information menu item for dates of upcoming elections.

Vital Statistics

Upcoming Vital Record Information

 

 

Vital Statistics are birth, death, marriage, and civil union certifications.

**Please note** Absolutely no information can be given over the telephone regarding Vital Records. Under Illinois State Law (410 ILCS 535-Vital Records Act) only specific individuals have legal access to birth, death or marriage certificates. The Logan County Clerk’s Office will issue certificates to authorized individuals only. To do otherwise is a violation of Illinois Law. Vital Records are not considered public information, nor are they subject to the Freedom of Information Act.

 

Obtaining a Marriage License

  

Marriages licenses may be obtained from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Office of the County Clerk. Marriage applications are available in the Clerk's office or you can submit an online marriage application through our website (please visit our online marriage application tab for more details). The license may be used the following day and expires after 60 days. The couple must be marrying in Logan County. You are no longer required to get a blood test when obtaining your marriage license. You must be at least 18 years of age. If you are under 18, both of your parents must be present when getting your license. It is necessary for both parties to come in to the office to fill out the marriage license application. Civil ceremonies may be conducted for a $10.00 fee. Marriage License fees are $50.00.

Any individuals making an application for a marriage license in the County of Logan must provide identification with the name and date of birth of the applicant.

Military Discharge

Military Discharge DD214 Request

 

Who May Obtain a Copy of a Military Discharge:

  • Military Veteran
  • Military Veteran's Dependents 
  • County Veteran's Service Officer
  • Representatives of the Department of Veterans' Affairs
  • Any person with written authorization from the military veteran or the military veteran's dependents. 

Fees:
There is no charge for certified copies issued.

What You Need:

  • A Completed Military Discharge - Request Form is needed in order to obtain a copy of a military discharge.
  • A photo ID is required from the person requesting a copy of the military discharge. 

You MUST fill out a request form as required by state law. Our Office cannot accept this form via email or fax.

Honor Rewards Program

 

The Honor Rewards Program is a service provided to all veterans. Veterans can view Logan County businesses, along with other counties and states, that offer discounts. Signing up for rewards is completely free and easy. 

Businesses can sign up through the Honor Rewards Program to be displayed. The sign up process for Honor Rewards is free to all businesses.

Notice of Recording Fee Schedule Change

 

The County Clerk serves as the Recorder of Deeds in Logan County. Records of real estate transactions are recorded in the County Clerk's office. Real estate recordings date back to 1839.

 

Document Preparation

 

Document Preparation is a specialized task which may demand legal knowledge or advice. The Office of the County Clerk is forbidden by law to give legal advice.

The following documents are necessary for certain filings: 

Documents for recording must contain:

  • Name and address of "Prepared By"
  • Name and address of "Return To"
  • Name and address of "Tax Bill To" (if applicable)
  • Property Tax Identification Number
  • Legal description
  • Common address

Our current, acceptable forms of payment for recordings are cash or check only.

*We only accept exact fee amounts to record documents. If we do not receive our required fee amount, we will not accept documents to record.

 

E-Recording

 

     E-recording is the process of submitting documents for recording online, no paper copies of documents will be used. The County Clerk’s staff will review, record, and return the document electronically as well. This process reduces the turnaround time, reduces the time for handling rejected documents, and eliminates uncertainty caused by delays in the mail. This service is available through four separate vendors:

Welcome to the office of the Logan County Clerk and Recorder. The County Clerk has many roles in Logan County Government. The County Clerk is the keeper of the official seal of the County, Clerk of the County Board, keeper of vital statistics, marriage licenses, assumed names, tax extensions, delinquent taxes and the Logan County Election Authority. Here you will find forms and suggestions for obtaining documents that may help in your search for information in Logan County.

 

The County Clerk also serves as the County Recorder. Tax Extension

 

The Office of the County Clerk is responsible for the extension of property tax. Tax levies from all taxing bodies in Logan County are filed in our office and available for viewing.

  

 

 Delinquent Taxes

 

   Delinquent taxes sold in Logan County tax sales must be redeemed in the Office of the County Clerk. It is necessary to call our office to be assured of the exact amount of payment. Payment must be made in cash, certified check or money order.

 

Assumed Business Name

 

The Process to file an Assumed Business Name:

  • Applicants can complete the Certification of Intention in the Clerk's Office.  
  • The filing fee ($10.00) will be collected the day the applicant comes to the Clerk's Office to collect their information. Acceptable tender is cash or check. The applicant will be asked to provide a valid photo ID. 
  • The Clerk's Office will give a Publication Notice when the Certification of Intention form has been completed.
  • The Publication Notice will need to be submitted to the local paper of record within fifteen days of filing the Certificate of Intention with the Logan County Clerk. The publication fees with newspapers vary. The notice must be published once a week for three consecutive weeks. The Certificate of Intention will be void if publication requirements are not met.
  • After our office receives proof of publication from the applicant, we will issue a Certificate of Ownership of Business along with a copy of the publication notice.

The Office of the County Clerk conducts all elections in Logan County. Logan County has 18,784 registered voters and 29 precincts.

Every two years the County Clerk's Office publishes a reference and yearbook of all government officials that are elected or appointed in Logan County.

The 2023-2024 Logan County Reference and Yearbook is now available in our office.

 

Additional Services

 

   The County Clerk is responsible for providing county liquor licenses, receipting all county money, paying most county bills, sending out meeting schedules for the county board, setting the agenda for adjourned county board meetings, and statements of economic interest.
